Introduction

Could one small marker help protect an entire coastline?

Cappagh Browne teams are supporting Southern Water’s Yellow Fish campaign, installing gully markers across coastal communities to help tackle pollution and protect local water quality.

Carrying a simple message, Only Rain Down the Drain, the markers highlight an important fact: what enters a roadside drain doesn’t simply disappear. In many cases, it can flow directly into rivers, streams and coastal waters.

Every year, litter, oils, paint and other pollutants enter drainage systems, impacting wildlife, habitats and the quality of our waterways. The Yellow Fish campaign uses highly visible markers to encourage people to think twice before disposing of anything that could harm the environment.

Working alongside Southern Water and local authorities, Cappagh Browne is helping deliver the campaign across the South Coast, turning awareness into action through simple, visible reminders in the communities we serve.

Chris Sturgess, Project Manager at Cappagh Browne Utilities, said:

“The message couldn’t be simpler, but its impact is significant. These markers remind people that everyday actions have consequences, and that small changes in behaviour can make a real difference to protecting our waterways, beaches and coastline.”

The initiative forms part of wider efforts to improve understanding of how everyday choices affect water quality and the environment.

By supporting the Yellow Fish campaign, Cappagh Browne is helping raise awareness, encourage responsible behaviour and protect the coastal communities and environments that matter to us all.

Because when it comes to our waterways, what goes down the drain matters.
